The 2020 Summer Olympics is an upcoming international multisports event. This year it is taking place in Tokyo from the 24th of July until the 9th of August followed by the 2020 Summer Paralympics starting from August 25th to 6th of September. This will be the second time when Japan is hosting the summer Olympic Games.
The Olympic venues will be divided into – Heritage venue hosting 9 sports, Tokyo Bay zone for 15 sports, outlying venue for 16 sports as well as football venues. Olympic schedule: key dates
The opening ceremony for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games is set to be on the 24th of July at the Tokyo Olympic stadium. The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday the 9th of August at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium visitors will witness colorful performances, flag hoisting, speeches and finally the handover of the Olympic flag.
Venue Plan in Tokyo
During the 2020 Summer Olympic Games city of Tokyo will be divided into two zones: Heritage and Tokyo bay zone. The Heritage zone includes some of the venues used for the 1964 Olympic Games while the Tokyo bay zone is more modern and vibrant. The city of Tokyo will have a total of 42 venues as well as the Olympic village and Tokyo exhibition Centre.
Five of the venues will be dedicated to Football, two venues for the newly added baseball and softball, four venues for cycling, Olympic Stadium will be hosting the opening and closing ceremonies as well as competitions of athletics and football. Water sports such as sailing will take place at Enoshima Yacht Harbour, Surfing at Tsurigasaki Surfing Beach, Water Polo at the Tatsumi Water Polo Centre, Swimming, Diving, Artistic Swimming at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre as well as Odaiba Marine Park. The Summer Paralympics will also be adding new sports: badminton and taekwondo.
