The Japan Rail First Class Green Pass, grants its holders access to all 1st class Shinkansen and established fast-line trains, it allows passengers to enjoy the most comfortable seats on all Shinkansen bullet trains and certain fast lines.
JR Green pass allows the passengers to enjoy:

The Green Pass guarantees a spacious and comfortable seat in the air-conditioned cars of all the JR lines. The Green Japan Rail Pass is a great idea if you are planning to visit Japan during busy periods (May, August, and September) besides the higher comfort during your journeys, the green Cars are mostly not as busy as standard trains which will reassure that you will have a seat available. The JR Green Pass entitles travelers to travel in the 'Green Car', the equivalent of our 1st class, on all Shinkansen and certain fast lines. One of the perks of owning the JR Green Pass is traveling with less people, especially in the busy summer months. Normally the Green Cars are located in front of the train which allows passengers to avoid the lines entering and exiting the train. The speed of traveling with Green Cars is over 320 km/h, the newest models also offer a smoking area with the advanced ventilating system. All Green Car seats are reserved which allows you to have a confirmed seat on your train. For travelers who wish to enjoy an even more relaxing journey, private Green compartments can be found on certain Limited Express trains such as the "Super-View Odoriko". Japanese standards are so high that even ordinary cars are usually more than sufficient. However, if you want a little more space and a bit more peace and quiet, the Green Car is a good option for you!
The Japan Rail Pass is more accessible and cheaper than the standard Japan train tickets. The Japan Rail Pass can be used everywhere in Japan except for traveling with NOZOMI and MIZUHO trains on the following routes: Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen. The Japan rail pass can also be used on Tokyo Monorail as well as the Tokyo metro – Yamanote line.
Although the Japan Rail pass can be used on most of the lines it is important to note that – Aomori, Ainokaze and IR Ishikawa lines have some exceptions, where your trip might not be covered by your Japan Rail pass, if you have chosen to travel on these lines please pay attention to the stations where you choose to get off.
The Japan Rail Pass does not only cover the trains, but it also covers some of the bus lines like - JR Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Tokai, West Japan, Chugoku, Shikoku and JR Kyushu Bus.
Please note that the express bus lines, tram lines, and subway lines are not covered by your JRP.
